The Bamboo Tree is a special story for me. I read it at the Christmas Concert for Elizabeth Finn Care last week. The other readings were by James Fox, Joanna Lumley, David Astor and Kate Adie. Tough acts to follow, but follow them I did

The Bamboo Tree was given to me at a very difficult time in my life when I was feeling ‘less than’ and incomplete – broken in fact.

I found it very affirming that to be myself was ok – and that in our suffering, we become greater and more valuable in ways that we cannot at first see.

I was so touched by the fact that the person who gave it to me recognised this in me. I hope others may also see the strength, wisdom and real beauty they may have in their brokenness.
