David,
A quiet, serious ‘gentle giant’ of a man who died tragically from ingestion of poison derived from seeds, by his own choice.
It seemed that David was happier and more involved in his life and things seemed to be going along better as far as could be judged from a distant perspective, which is the best i can offer. i was not a close friend or colleague but somone on the periphere who knew him a little, or as well as he wanted to be known by me, without being intrusive which may be as well as we really know most people in ‘our wold’ of remote busy lives, with too little and infrequent our gifts of time for those who may benefit from that gift more than we can know.

A man of words so few
Dropped here and there
As dew
Upon the grass
Each spring to lighten
Us to sing
Another bell to ring
A bird upon the wing
To fly toward the past
Create our life to last
Our memories are cast
Upon the wind.

A poem written for David on 8th December 2008 during a quiet Quaker Funeral held at Bodmin Crematorium, written in sympathy by Caroline Keane
